And while moving and dealing with all the usual ‘stress’ we wrote a survival guide to moving offices – you are welcome!
So we left our lovely 15th-floor haven behind … and moved up to the 3rd floor of 127 Portland Street in central Manchester.
And in a whirlwind of boxes, tape and labelling cables, we learnt a few valuable lessons on how to transplant your office to a new location with minimum fuss.
With everyone mucking in and the short distance between the offices, work wasn’t interrupted too much, and everyone managed to be up and running by lunchtime.
Here are a few tips on how to reduce stress and up productivity when you move office.
Getting nails out of walls smoothly
Offices should be home to lots of things on the wall – certificates, staff pictures, past campaigns, team-building photos. When it comes to taking them off the wall, removing the nails with minimum damage will be a big problem.
Our advice? Take nails out with the other end of a hammer and a damp sponge. Place the sponge on the wall under the nail and ease the nail out. The moisture from the sponge will reduce the amount of mortar and brick dust that comes loose.
Essentials box
Before the move, pack up a box of everything you’ll need immediately on arrival. Stuff like scissors, box cutters, the kettle and a tea-making kit, a dongle if wifi isn’t set up, cleaning equipment if necessary and screwdrivers and Allen keys for furniture assembly.
Label all wires
Help the techie out, and label all wires before packing them up. Make sure you store them neatly away to avoid tangling.
Give staff individual boxes
Give staff their box to pack all belongings away – anything from a computer mouse to keyboard and jotters – and get them to mark it with their name. They should be then responsible for their box.
Pinup the new table plan on the desk on arrival.
All movers and staff should follow the table plan and park furniture and belongings in the appropriate spots.
Treat everyone to pizza!
After all that, the moving crew need a treat. Get some cold drinks and get everyone’s order in and enjoy a well-deserved pizza!
(By the way, if you want to pop in a say hello, or send us a welcome bunch of flowers or box of choccies, our new address is: Floor 3, 127 Portland St, Manchester, M1 4PZ)
